Held at Vancouver Community College’s Downtown campus, “Moving from Talk to Action: Youth in BC” was a forum organized by First Call: BC Child and Youth Advocacy Coalition and the BC Government and Service’s Employee Union on June 17th, 2011. The purpose of this event was to talk to youth and agencies that work with youth about how young people can get involved in activities in their local communities. Furthermore, the event spoke about the different resources that are available to young people to help them get engaged with communities. Throughout the forum, there were multiple speakers who talked about their involvement and experiences that were gained by helping out their neighbourhoods.
As young people transition from their teenage years to adulthood, it is important for them to recognize their role as global citizens. This event was created to raise awareness about the social responsibilities that youth have and the important roles they play in their communities. The saying goes, “the children are our future” and it is vital that youth have good social habits so that they can create a better future for the world.
