Fall is finally here! The weather is getting colder and Vancouverites are slowly transitioning from shorts, skirts and summer dresses to pants, leggings, jeggings and jeans. Vancouver is famously known in a negative way, for wearing yoga pants all the time. I recently found a poll on Travel Msn that listed Vancouver as the third worst dressed city in the whole world!
I recently came across an online article in the Daily Mail, a UK news magazine, entitled: Friends with benefits? Young people want more than just ‘no strings attached sex. We have been hearing about the friends-with-benefits narrative a lot in the media recently, with the popularity of the movies like, Friends with Benefits and No Strings Attached, as well as countless other references to the arrangement in mainstream culture. The article I’m referencing claims that this type of casual sex arrangement leads to depression and anxiety among young adults.
I had a chance to enjoy one of the ninety shows that are taking place at The Vancouver Fringe Festival this year on Friday September 6th. The show’s title was Fractured, a play about a fictional school shooting that followed an open discussion format for the length of the 75 minute show. Nine kids, who played the part of witnesses to the school shooting, talked about their experience- interacting with both each other and the audience.
Recently, the topic of internet addiction has been getting a lot of media attention as it has officially been classified as a mental disorder among many mental health professionals. Internet addicts cut fairly evenly across the population.
With Fall just around the corner, local produce is in full bloom as harvest season is among us. Instead of buying your fruits and vegetables from Safeway or Superstore, (which are usually Mexican or Californian grown) check out the selection at any of the 7 locations of the Vancouver Farmers Markets.
Well folks, the weather has taken a distinct turn for the worse and it seems we are heading into rainy season once again. Many may disagree, but as someone who was born and raised in Vancouver, I kind of love the rain. The smell of rain hitting the hot pavement, drinking tea while wearing slippers and watching the rain roll down the window, fuzzy socks. It’s great.
