Though each show sounds effortlessly pieced together with top of the line content, it is certainly not the effort of one individual that makes each show a success. Over the years, Y57 has expanded into a fully functioning media team. These are the current people that are working hard to produce content you care about on-air and online:
OVEY YEUNG | Twitter: @oveyyeung
Managing Director
Ovey is a marketing communication strategist with 5 years of experience in print/online media. Ovey is passionate about social issues and likes to stay involved in community projects. Ovey always loves a good laugh and likes to play hard, work hard. When not attached to her blackberry, you can find her adventuring outdoors. You can also find Ovey strolling downtown shopping, internet cafes or at a social function! She has recently moved from the fashion to technology industry. Follow her @oveyyeung for interesting tactics around marketing, communications and #sm.
NICOLE FREESTON | media@y57.ca | @nicolefreeston
Y57 Host and Editor in Chief
Nicole is in her fourth and final year as a Communications/Publishing Student at Simon Fraser University. When she’s not making lattes and americanos at her part-time job, you could sometimes find her playing with her Nintendo DS or slaving away on the Y57 website. She’s probably the most Asian halfer you’ll ever meet and owns way too much Hello Kitty. She hopes her four and a half years of hardcore schooling will land her a spot working for the Vancouver Canucks, where she interned as a Website Reporter.
AMANDA JANG
Fundraising & Event Manager
Amanda is in her senior year at SFU where she studies Communications and Legal Studies. As a local to the city, she loves taking advantage of the unique and diverse range of cuisines Vancouver has to offer. When she has the opportunity to travel, she loves exploring warm destinations where she can enjoy different cultural experiences. As a west coast girl, she likes snowboarding and yoga. Amanda hopes to make Y57′s Battle of the Bands a remarkably epic and memorable night.
MINYOUNG HWANG | fund@y57.ca
Fundraising and Event Coordinator
That girl constantly belting a tune, whether it be in the streets or in a performance? Yup, that’s Min Young. Min Young is more than pumped for her last year at Prince of Wales Secondary because unlike most people, she absolutely adores school. Other than singing, some of her other involvements include the THiNK Club (Tomorrow’s Hope in North Korea), musical theatre (come see our school production of “Hair” this February!) and an awareness project about the dolphin slaughter in Japan. One thing that Min Young wants to work on this year is becoming more athletic – which is why she recently joined swimming class – and practising for her ARCT piano exam in January (uh oh).
JUSTIN CHOI | justin@y57.ca
Senior News Producer
Justin is in his second year at UBC. He enjoys listening to Korean rap, and when he isn’t writing offensive articles on his blog, he’s writing offensive articles for various magazines. He mainly procrastinates, but he occasionally finds time to participate in volunteer activities around the community. His favourite writers include Douglas Adams, Terry Pratchett, Mark Twain, Tom Stoppard, and Maddox.
RICHELLE ZHENG | richelle@y57.ca | @richellez
Junior News Producer
Richelle is a grade twelve student at Prince of Wales Secondary. She loves writing, photography and travel. To her, hockey + K-pop + Twitter is the best combination on any given night. Richelle dreams unrealistically of living in Manhattan someday.
ZAHRA PREMJI | yom@y57.ca | @zahrapremji
Youth Of The Month Producer
Her headphones in, music blasting, and of course groovin’ to the beat of the dayliterally no matter where she is! This is how you’ll find Zahra on most days, whether it be while writing papers or bungee jumping. Adventurous and spontaneous are probably the best words that describe her and her lust for travel and discovery from Australia to Africa. Zahra loves what she does because she enjoys digging up the facts and using her voice to tell the stories that may not be heard otherwise. Considering she is just about done her Major in Communications at SFU she hopes to make her dreams a reality and take the steps towards becoming a Television Broadcaster.
ERIC YIP | listings@y57.ca | @ericyipperz
Community Events Blogger
Eric is a 4th year Communications student at SFU. He listens to everything that is out there as long as it sounds good (don’t believe it? check out his ipod). He can play the piano, drums and is learning the guitar. He’s a huge sports fan and can talk to anyone about any sports out there, even cricket! Sadly, he watches more sports than he plays but he does play hockey and tennis pretty well. He hopes all his sports knowledge comes in handy one day as he wishes to be a sports broadcaster in the future.

SONIA WONG | music@y57.ca | @soniasophia
Senior Music Producer
Sonia is from Vancouver, British Columbia and is currently a Communications student at SFU. When she’s not busy with school or work, she co-runs an indie music blog, curates awesome music compilations and mixes, networks with music industry individuals, jams with her band, attends as many concerts as physically possible, works on her photography, and volunteers for awesome independent organizations. If one was to ask her to describe herself in one word, she’d most likely say something like ‘bad at following directions’. In the future, she would love to travel more, meet more amazing people and to run her own record label.
