The Team

Behind the Scenes at Y57 Media

Though each show sounds effortlessly pieced together with top of the line content, it is certainly not the effort of one individual that makes each show a success. Over the years, Y57 has expanded into a fully functioning media team. These are the current people that are working hard to produce content you care about on-air and online:

OVEY YEUNG | Twitter: @oveyyeung
Managing Director

Ovey is a marketing communication strategist with 5 years of experience in print/online media. Ovey is passionate about social issues and likes to stay involved in community projects. Ovey always loves a good laugh and likes to play hard, work hard. When not attached to her blackberry, you can find her adventuring outdoors. You can also find Ovey strolling downtown shopping, internet cafes or at a social function! She has recently moved from the fashion to technology industry. Follow her @oveyyeung for interesting tactics around marketing, communications and #sm.

NICOLE FREESTON | media@y57.ca | @nicolefreeston
Y57 Host and Editor in Chief

Nicole is a recent graduate from the Communications/Publishing program at Simon Fraser University. Her studies have taken her to the world of PR at Magnolia Communications and to the Peak Street Team where she promotes her love of folk and electronic music to the public. When she’s not playing Pokemon on her Nintendo DS, you can sometimes find her attempting to play guitar or slaving away on the Y57 website. She’s probably the most Asian halfer you’ll ever meet and owns way too much Hello Kitty. She hopes her experiences along with four and a half years of hardcore schooling will land her a spot working for the Vancouver Canucks, where she interned as a Website Reporter.

ERIC YIP | listings@y57.ca | @ericyipperz
Y57 Host and Executive Producer

Eric is a 4th year Communications student at SFU. He listens to everything that is out there as long as it sounds good (don’t believe it? check out his ipod). He can play the piano, drums and is learning the guitar. He’s a huge sports fan and can talk to anyone about any sports out there, even cricket! Sadly, he watches more sports than he plays but he does play hockey and tennis pretty well. He hopes all his sports knowledge comes in handy one day as he wishes to be a sports broadcaster in the future.

AMANDA JANG | fund@y57.ca  | @mandyjayce
Fundraising and Event Manager

Amanda is an easy going, carefree Vancouverite that enjoys sipping on green tea lattes and eating chocolate chip mint ice cream on sunny days. After a crazy semester in Australia and a spontaneous backpacking journey around Southeast Asia, Amanda has found a new passion for travel. You can always find her roaming around Vancouver at movies, restaurants, concerts, art shows and taking advantage of the great outdoors. Amanda loves the laid back West Coast lifestyle, but also secretly loves being kept busy.

MINYOUNG HWANG | fund@y57.ca | @minyounghwang_
Fundraising and Events Coordinator

That girl constantly belting a tune, whether it be in the streets or in a performance? Yup, that’s Min Young. Min Young is more than pumped for her last year at Prince of Wales Secondary because unlike most people, she absolutely adores school. Other than singing, some of her other involvements include the THiNK Club (Tomorrow’s Hope in North Korea), musical theatre (come see our school production of “Hair” this February!) and an awareness project about the dolphin slaughter in Japan. One thing that Min Young wants to work on this year is becoming more athletic – which is why she recently joined swimming class – and practicing for her ARCT piano exam in January (uh oh).

SONIA SOPHIA | music@y57.ca | @soniasophia
Senior Music Producer

Sonia is from Vancouver, British Columbia and is currently a Communications student at SFU. When she’s not busy with school or work, she co-runs a music blog, networks with music industry individuals, jams with her band, attends as many concerts as physically possible, works on her photography, and volunteers for awesome independent organizations. If one was to ask her to describe herself in one word, she’d most likely say something like ‘bad at following directions’. In the future, she would love to travel more, meet more amazing people and to continue being a big music nerd.

ANNA HO| fund@y57.ca| @annaho05
Fundraising and Events Coordinator

Anna is a 3rd year marketing student at Kwantlen Polytechnic University. When she’s not studying, you can find her playing dodgeball, attending concerts, wining and dining. She enjoys spending her time outdoors and is always up for new adventures. One of Annas strongest suits has always been her athleticism, She can do anything from riding a bike to hitting the slopes. One day when she completes her degree, she hopes to move to a city where the sun is always shining and there are no clouds in sight.

DIANNE OCAMPO |music@y57.ca | @dnnocampo
Junior Music Writer

Dianne will be attending her first year of Communications at SFU in the fall. When she isn’t studying or playing Call of Duty, you can usually find her playing guitar in her band or staring away at her laptop trying to find them gigs. She loves the Vancouver music scene and all the talent it has to offer and attends as many local shows as a 17 year old can. She can’t wait until she becomes of age so that she can finally attend 19+ shows. After university, Dianne hopes to work in music marketing and management.

DOMINIC CHAN | yom@y57.ca | @domchandc25
Youth Of The Month Producer

Dominic Chan is from Vancouver, British Columbia. While he’s not busy with Y57, he is involved with the film and TV industry, writes scripts, jams to his favorite music and takes photos as his hobby. As a passionate actor and singer, Dominic hopes to work as a vital member of the film and media industry.

LUCAS MENESES-SKODA | news@y57.ca | @Meneses_L
News Producer

Lucas Meneses-Skoda is an energetic, young individual with a passion for people and the stories they have to tell. He holds a diploma in journalism from Kwantlen Polytechnic University and is currently studying radio broadcasting at BCIT. With a recorder and a sharp mind, Lucas hopes to capture audiences with the fascinating stories his eyes and ears are able to pick up around the world. He is half German, half Colombian, but proud to be full Canadian. Lucas also loves mayo with his French fries.

FALISHA ALI | lifestyle@y57.ca | @FalishaAli01
Fashion/Look of the Week Writer

Falisha Ali is a recent graduate in the Marketing program from Langara College. At a young age, she started mixing different colours and textures together to create her own unique look. The love affair with fashion had then begun. Falisha is a foodie and loves late night Taro or Oreo bubble tea and california rolls. She is a Hello Kitty fanatic and a shopaholic! In her spare time, she enjoys the arts and loves attending ballets, operas and theatre performances. You can also find her strolling down gastown on her adventure to discover great food and of course shop! Falisha is a world traveller and enjoys learning about different cultures. She hopes to move to New York and become a fashionista/editor at Vogue.
